Gemini Horoscope for August 2010

Planetary energies will be whipping up wild and powerful winds in early August, and nearly everyone of every sign will sense tension in the air on August 6 and 7. A cardinal cross made up of planets gathering in cardinal signs of Aries, Libra, Cancer, and Capricorn will calibrate into a perfect box pattern with ten squares and seven oppositions when Saturn, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto, the Sun, and transiting moon will begin to argue and block the right away of each other. I have not seen anything quite this extreme before in my lifetime, and after having done new calculations in my computer for planetary alignments in the next 500 years, it looks as through we won't see anything like this again.

In your case, dear Gemini, the universe is focusing on your love life, a friendship, or your relationship with one of your children. Your love life, if you are dating, is not likely to be easy under all this planetary pressure, and you may find you need to make up your mind about a certain person. You may be given information about him or her, which you may say became quite a revelation.

Or, you may get along fine, but other conditions operating on the two of you may force a decision about the future. For example, your sweetheart may win a new job - in a distant city or even overseas - and you must suddenly decide whether to stay behind (and eventually possibly break up) or commit to one another. This is only one example of literally dozens of possible events that could happen, now but you get the idea.

As you left July, Mars opposed Uranus on July 30. Mars was in your romance house and opposed Uranus in your friendship houses. That was a hot, angry aspect so your antenna may be up about a friend or a sweetheart. Perhaps you have found areas of disagreement or discovered something about the character of someone close that proved to be unsettling at best, or upsetting and completely unacceptable at worst. Mars and Uranus were not trying to taunt you, but rather to show you certain truths. Think of these aspects as ones that bring full disclosure, showing you what you could not see for yourself.

Now, on August 7, Venus, transiting your fifth house of true love, will take her turn at opposing Uranus, no one's favorite date night. Things are certainly not about to go the way you assume, and that day, August 7, a Saturday, is likely to be difficult.

If you are not dating but are married or in a very stable long-term alliance, relax - your relationship will not likely be affected. Instead, it could be that one of your children will need you. (To explain, the same fifth house that rules love would cover your offspring.) One of your children may need to make a big decision or take a big action that will require courage. One might be in a crisis - I don't even like to raise the possibility because children are so tender and close to our hearts - so let's hope it's not that.

Keep your schedule open and flexible should your child want to talk about something dearly important to him or her. If one of your children was born a cardinal sign (Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn) and has a birthday that falls at the end of March, September, June, or December, or has an early degree of a cardinal sign rising, then pay special attention to that particular child. She or he may need your wise advice, emotional support, and possibly even financial support. Do not assume any news you hear is trivial near August 6 or 7 (plus or minus five days).

By hearing what's up in your love life, or talking with a friend or a child, you can finally offer help and comfort. You are a master of communication, so you will find the perfect words when you need them.

You will have one outstanding day - straight from heaven - when Mars and Venus link in your house of true love. The job of Venus and Mars is to create the spark of love, strong enough to create a lasting connection. Because they will link in fellow air sign Libra, you will be perfectly situated to reap the benefits.

Mars adores being with Venus, and Venus' feelings are mutual. Nevertheless, the universe keeps each planet busy on very different assignments in distant parts of the sky. Their last meeting was in September 2008. Now these two "cosmic lovers" will have their long-awaited romantic rendezvous, and as luck will have it, in your house of true love! Wow, circle August 20 as a potentially very hot date night!

Your most romantic dates his month includes: August 17, 20-22, 26-27, and 31.

In regard to your money, Mars in Libra is about to trigger additional news of the lunar eclipse of June 26 on August 6 and 7. On or very close to these dates, you may hear news pertaining to your financial condition. Keep your eyes and ears open - there could be good news. Let's hope it is!

Now let's turn to your everyday work projects and your talents, for as a Gemini you are likely to be unusually talented in the communication arts, including one of the following areas: writing, editing, speaking and lecturing, teaching, sales, public relations, advertising, screenwriting, proofing, researching, or code writing for computers.

If you feel you do excel in one or more of these skills, the new moon on August 9 could easily bring you a new assignment. With Neptune beaming friendly greetings, this assignment will be creative and allow for lots of your imaginative input, so you are sure to want to roll up your sleeves and get started.

If you work in sales, you may get a new client, and again, you will be in top form, ready to display a keenly original approach that will later garner you praise from people who matter.

This new moon can help you in digital media, too. You may redesign your blog now, or start a Facebook or Twitter page. You might work on a new Smartphone app, or design a logo for your business. There are many applications, but all of them are right up your alley, so you will enjoy this new moon.

If your birthday falls or near June 8, you will feel the good effects of this new moon very powerfully, but almost all Gemini will have something to cheer about.

When it comes to your career, there's more good news. Uranus, the planet of creativity, will move back to Pisces on August 14, which is terrific for you. In Pisces, Uranus will rest in your tenth house of honors and career success until March 11, 2011, to be joined next month by Jupiter, giver of gifts and luck, in Pisces from September 9 to January 22, 2011. These two powerhouse planets will write your name in glittering lights in the midnight sky for months!

Indeed, the time from September through most of January is likely to be pure magic when it comes to advancement and increased professional status, so be optimistic, dear Gemini - some of the best career news you've had in a long time is on the way. Uranus will stir up your deepest sense of creativity, and you'll surely want to voice the ideas you come up with now. Keep your eye on September 17-20 as spectacular for your career.

You may not need to wait! You will get a taste of just how exciting things will get for you in your career now, this month, on the full moon, August 24, plus or minus four days. Something you did in your recent past (have an interview, make a presentation, apply for a promotion - you name it) will bring an exciting answer, publicity, or praise. It may bring money, too. That full moon of August 24 will signal Pluto in your eighth house of commissions, bonus, licensing fees, and financial reward, so you are likely to shine in your profession AND pocket a generous sum of money. Everyone will want to be you, dear Gemini!

Sometime after August 9 and during the rest of the month, a quick trip may come up as a possibility for you, and if so, you should take it. It would be for fun and relaxation, not work. Sweet! Considering all that might be going on in your life this month, you would do well to take a little time off, even if you can only get away for a weekend. You won't miss much by going away. Why? Mercury will go retrograde this month from August 20 to September 12.

You will begin to feel the trademark slowness of Mercury out of phase earlier than August 20 - actually it will begin from August 6 onward. Guard against possible miscommunications with others, and be certain not to make errors in posting on social media or in email. Mercury is your ruler, so while everyone will experience delays and cancellations and bouts of forgetfulness, and have a hard time deciphering shifting trends while Mercury is retrograde, you will feel these effects twice as strongly.

Be certain not to make any major decisions or sign any contracts during the retrograde, but if possible table things until mid-September when your aspects will be better. This month, the cardinal cross will be stamped into the DNA of any project you begin, and you might want to have an easier, gentler launch.

Summary

You'll be in a highly social mood, ready to meet and greet others, but there will be obstacles to fun and love, particularly during the first half of August. Don't try too hard, for if you do, your frustrations will multiply. It might be better to beg off social obligations and new opportunities to meet potential romantic partners in the first two weeks.

Venus and Mars, now in Libra, will light your fifth house of love, a lovely place for these two romantic planets to be - but heavy-duty Saturn will be in that house too, in close proximity. Saturn could, unfortunately, spoil the pudding. Saturn wants you to work, not play, and will make conditions difficult until you cave in to work-related demands and pare down your social schedule. Worse, with Uranus stirring the pot too, you may have confrontations with friends, or a serious disagreement with one. Alas, sometimes life is that way. Be cheerful though, for your love life will go far easier in the second half of August, so you won't miss too much.

Do your best to make plans to travel to a new setting before summer slips away. The new moon August 9 will allow you to find the ideal location that offers a chic experience but is also affordable luxury. The fact that Neptune will be prominent suggests a locale near water would be ideal, and being there will inspire your creative side, too. You may even get an invitation from a wealthy friend to spend time at her cottage - accept!

This month, travel really does bring you all sorts of fortunate possibilities in addition to the chance to wind down. Mercury will be retrograde from August 20 to September 12, and because this planet is your ruler, you won't find anything too pressing going on at home, so you can safely duck out.

Your career will get a mighty boost from Uranus' move back to Pisces on August 14 though January 22 - this is fantastic news, for it means your work will come to light and be appreciated. Uranus is soon to link to good fortune Jupiter, a lovely cosmic coincidence that will certainly raise your profile.

Yet you won't have to wait until Jupiter enters Pisces in September to see some exciting developments. This could happen at the full moon August 24, so plan to be back from your journeys then. Lots of pretty fireworks will light up your professional sector ruling reputation and applause, and you'll want to enjoy all the fuss about you that comes your way. You may be finishing up a long-term project or reaching the end of a negotiation for a new job that comes with great responsibility and power. Whatever occurs, you'll be ready to tell the world.

Neptune will be close to that full moon, so if you are in a creative field, you'll show the full range of your talents near that full moon August 24. Pluto, now in a financial house, will beam excellent support, so you are likely to be very pleased with the financial rewards that this full moon delivers too, most likely in terms of a bonus, fee, commission, court settlement, or other one-time chunk of cash. This full moon could easily mark a watershed moment in your career, so start now to make it a special moment by interviewing for a new job, going after publicity, or by taking another assertive, but judicious, risk.

Dates to Note:

Your romantic life will be energized all month, but this year, you seem to have a more serious purpose to dating - no more dating "just to date."

Your most powerful days for romance will be August 20 and 21, when Venus and Mars will make a rare conjunction in Libra, a sign that blends beautifully with yours. These two lover planets will meet in your house of true love.

Stay by yourself on August 7 and 8, when Venus has a dispute with Uranus and conjoins Saturn. It's a sure to be a heavy weekend.

The days surrounding August 13 will be difficult too, when a friend or sweetheart could be very combative.

Stage an upgrade to your appearance on August on 20, but schedule no plastic surgery this month, please!

Mercury, your ruler, will be retrograde from August 20 to September 12, so things will be in flux. Make no firm decisions until after September 14.

Money may be a concern on August 21, or within two days of this date due to Saturn and Pluto at odds. It will be hard to reach accord with partners or adversaries.

A much better financial day will arrive on August 26 when Pluto and the Sun trade supportive signals.

The new moon August 9 may bring opportunities to travel to chic nearby resorts in the two weeks that follow it.

Your career will bring lots of good news within four days of the full moon, August 24. Be back from travels by August 20 - you will want to be there to get the good news.

Near the full moon, August 24, when your career is so positive, you could easily get good news about a commission or other business deal, thanks to Pluto's positive vibrations.

This charity is dear to my heart. As you may already know, in my past, I have been through two harrowing surgeries to correct a birth defect that involved excessive bleeding on my left leg. In the first surgery, at age 14, I was in the hospital for eleven months, and the second time, in 1992, I was in for eight months. During all my surgeries, so far in life I have I received a total of 38 blood transfusions.

I am fortunate - all the blood I received was wholesome and untainted, and because of that, I am alive today. In the early days of the disease, when the medical community was still learning how to properly test donated blood for AIDS, some hospital transfusion recipients got AIDS. Among the most notable was Elizabeth Glaser, who contracted the disease from receiving a blood transfusion after giving birth. Before she died at a young age, she became an effective AIDS activist and raised quite a bit of awareness for the disease. Most of us know people who are no longer among us who have fallen victim to this disease. More work needs to be done. Being a very lucky girl, I will always try to find ways to say thank you to the world, and to God, for protecting me. As you see, AIDS is a charity close to my heart. Please come and help me raise quite a bit of money for this charity!

So mark the date - the evening of September 10 in New York City. Henri Bendel has planned quite an array of sparkling events for that evening - all very unique and fun - and I am only one small part of their activities. If you are not familiar with Henri Bendel you are in for a treat! The store itself is housed in a beautiful jewel of a landmark building that's small and very elegant. It is my very favorite store to buy on-trend fashion handbags, scarves, sunglasses, jewelry, and makeup. Bendel's specializes in accessories and beauty only, so come with your list to get ready for fall!

Congratulations to author Derek Blasberg for his cool new book "Classy."

I have been so busy lately that it's been hard to sit down to read a book. Still, when I heard that Derek Blasberg had recently written "Classy" and it was hitting high notes at the New York Times, I knew instantly I wanted to read it. Derek grew up in St. Louis, but graduated from New York University with a major in Dramatic Literature and Journalism.

Anyone familiar with the downtown, uber-hip scene in New York City will soon hear about Derek. He is one of the cool, young arbiters of taste here in the same way that creative director Joe Zee at Elle magazine has become. (If you watch The City on TV, you know Joe.) Derek edits a regular column at Style.com, so you get the picture.

This is an ultra-modern book of etiquette aimed at a modern young woman born into an age where things are changing at the speed of light. With so much new technology to enjoy and discover, and social networking changing the way we think and communicate, questions of what's right, what's wrong are inevitable - and yet surprisingly tough to sort out. When is a skirt too short? When, or if, is it OK to answer a cell phone at a meeting? What about breaking up a romance - what are the new rules? On Facebook, how can you avoid being a victim of TMI (too much information) versus just being friendly? Derek Blasberg tackles it all.

His chapters are written in such a compelling way, curiosity leads you to wander in, and once there, you'll find you stay there. I first opened the book to this chapter, "Some Notes on New Places: Whether you're crossing the street or crossing the ocean, it's good to keep a few things in mind when you've changed your location." How can you not read on?

Yet Derek never tricks you - his chapter heads deliver the goods he promises, which is more than I can say for some tabloid magazine blurbs these days. Derek's advice is substantial, very honest, and always thought-provoking. Even when his advice is delivered in humorous form, which is frequently, he manages to make solid sense, and may even coax you to see things from a completely new perspective.

I particularly loved his chapter that lists "Fashionable Films to Know." There's another chapter, right after it, called "Fictional Characters to Know (in Books You Should Read)." I am a sucker for these kinds of lists, because I love to see what other people enjoy - I might get an idea. In this case, I got lots of new ideas of classic books to read and classic films to see that somehow (no idea how) I missed.

"Classy" is billed as the perfect handbook for the very young woman of Gossip Girl age, but honestly, I feel this book is for anyone, including me. Here is the link to Amazon to get it.
