Libra Horoscope for August 2010

As you finished July, Mars and Uranus were locked in a dead-heat battle for dominance, and you may have been surprised at how vehemently a partner or collaborator was challenging your opinions and blocking your path. You may have assumed all this was an aberration, but in truth, it was simply the tip of the iceberg. August is due to bring a torrent of hard aspects toward everyone, but because you are a cardinal sign, you are likely to feel the brunt of this cosmic storm more than most.

So that you don't feel broadsided - and thereby left vulnerable - I will describe what is happening in the heavens in early August, to peak on August 6 and 7. Migrating planets are moving into a cross pattern. In order to have a cross pattern, you need four squares and two oppositions, but this month we have ten squares and seven oppositions - more than we need, for sure. To have a cardinal cross you need all the planets in the pattern in cardinal signs - Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn - and we do have that. In fact, the only two heavenly bodies NOT in a cardinal sign are Mercury along with the Sun.

You may recall that at the time of the June 26 eclipse I mentioned that planets were loosely heading in a cross pattern, but by August 6 and 7, they will click into place to form a perfect cardinal sign and challenge each other within a tight span of between one and five degrees. Nothing this extreme has ever happened in our lifetime, and looking 500 years into the future, it won't happen again.

Capricorn and Cancer are both considered business, big money signs, so Pluto in Capricorn - at one end of this cardinal cross - may cause financial markets to undulate. It's long been known that emotions affect the market, so some sort of news in the media could undermine investor confidence. It would be best not to take financial risks. Instead, adopt a conservative approach in all business and financial matters now.

Have a look at this pattern. We will have Uranus (unexpected events) and Jupiter (money and luck) in Aries directly opposed (180 degrees) to Saturn (lessons learned), Venus (money, love, and your ruler), and Mars (action) in Libra. Each of these planets will be "square" (at 90-degree angles) to Pluto (masses of people, politics, and global money) in Capricorn and also "square" the transiting moon in Cancer (ruling the public's emotions). Cancer is also the United State's sign.

That pattern, if you were to map it out, makes a perfectly square box with planets in each corner of the square. Now put an "X" in the middle, tying the opposite corners of the square together in opposition. With any opposition you may have a tug-of-war between opposing ideas or values, or, conversely, cooperation and harmony through compromise. In your personal life, if you face a problem, a lot will depend on what has gone on in the past. If you want the situation to survive, you will find a good middle course. If you have long felt that a situation is unsustainable, this month's tough aspects will sound the last gong - you'll leave and not even look back.

In that sense, this month's aspects really do present a "make it or break it" atmosphere - but that's good. That's when things get settled once and for all! There is no doubt that this remarkable configuration will create a lot of tension. Still, the tension will be there for a purpose, for by applying pressure the universe can ferret out the weak links and help us give birth to a new social order. Any situation or relationship that is not strong and sturdy will break down, so you will clearly see where the fault lines lie.

With an aspect this extreme, events will run in the extreme, with some developments VERY favorable, and others very unfavorable. This type of energy will push everything to either end of the spectrum. Cardinal energy is fast, powerful, and urgent. In zero and one degree, where Uranus and Saturn are now, cardinal energy is considered to be so powerful as to epitomize the essence of the life force. As you see, we are dealing with some big stuff this month, and as a cardinal sign yourself, you will be right in the middle of this and in your element.

Those Libras who have birthdays that fall from September 23-28 will feel this energy this most.

Your seventh house of partnerships and your first house of your looks and identity will be affected.

You may change your looks under this month's developments, and also come to appreciate talents and qualities in yourself that you had not previously. You may be carrying around an old, outdated idea of who you are, and if so, this month's energies may help you update your self-image.

In this case, with both Mars and Venus close in Libra on August 20, you may be gratified by what you see! This should be quite a magical day!

Your partner seems very good for you, but even so, this month you may want to strangle one person that simply won't be cooperative.

Additionally, in the center of all the talks, Pluto stands in your fourth house of home, an area that will build up with tension and demand release. This appears to be your key area, where most of your attention will be drawn.

You may try to buy or sell a house, or struggle to find a way to pay your mortgage so you can keep your house. Or, someone connected with your home could bring unexpected news. A roommate may leave, or your landlord may suddenly want to sell the property you are renting from him. Pluto rules the very foundation of things, so you may be redoing your basement, or ripping out walls to change your home from the inside out. If so, your contractor may find unexpected problems that will have to be resolved.

If it is not your physical home that is on your mind, then you may be focused on a relationship, most likely one you have with a parent or grandparent. You may be trying to help your mother who may need medical attention, or if you were adopted, you may be trying to locate your birth parents. Whatever is going on at the very foundations of your life seems to be at the center of your attention in August.

As said earlier, a partner seems to not agree with your ideas, and as a result, you may feel thwarted by this person's objections. Your chart is again complicated, because generally, your partners are the very best area of your life these days - it's just this month when things could go haywire. It may be that your spouse is supportive but your business partner or agent is not. Most people have several partners in their lives, so you may know who may be pesky.

It's complicated because every part of your life will be hinged to the other parts, and when one is pulled out of alignment, the others will be, too. On top of all this, your own self-image appears to be bound up in all that is going on, so you are taking this all very personally, at the most core level. You seem to be updating your assessment of who you are, and what you want to happen next, all very weighty matters.

Mars is now in Libra, so you will be anxious to run with the banner. Mars in one's sign gives enormous advantage, and it also usually indicates a time to begin a completely new chapter. Mars will make you more attractive to others too, so if you are single, you may see a flurry of social activity. Mars only comes by every two years for a seven-week period and will remain in Libra until September 14.

However, with so many contradictory aspects and a smoke-and-mirrors atmosphere, the last thing you should be doing is making snap decisions and major announcements. On August 6 and 7, Mars will reach a critical degree that will unlock the message of the eclipse of June 26. (Can you believe this? Isn't the cardinal cross enough? We need Mars in the mix acting like a nosey neighbor, too?) If you heard no news back in June, and nothing near July 26, plus or minus four days, you might hear something dramatic now and it would have to do with your home. Your career is also undergoing change, so you may see shifts there, too.

If you did get news about your career and home at the end of June or in July, you will get additional information now. More trigger points to the recent eclipses will arrive in September, October, and December, so clearly, the last set of eclipses were powerful and will have a continuing presence.

Adding to the complexity of all that is going on, Mercury, the planet of communication, now in Virgo, will go retrograde from August 20 to September 12. Mercury will withhold its best powers of communication, perception, negotiation, and contracts. When retrograde, we mortals here on earth are left to stumble around on our own until Mercury comes back to help us. Because the world runs on communication and objective intellect, the areas that Mercury rules, things tend to falter without Mercury's involvement. All this means you have to step back and think things through before you make any major commitments. Sit back and wait - this is no time to act on plans, for if you do, you will be basing your decisions on faulty or missing data.

The new moon, August 9, will fall in your house of friendship and new acquaintances and it will be clear that your friends will be your biggest supporters and have your best interests at heart. Seek them out if you should need advice - they love you and will be happy to help you.

This part of your chart also rules social media. With all the crosscurrents in the air this month, be sensible when it comes to posting your messages. Don't say anything you might be regret saying later. You don't want to share too much information now, for it might come back to bite you.

One of your hardest weekends for fun and love is likely to come over August 6- 7, because your ruler, Venus, the love planet, will oppose Uranus, planet of surprise, and in this case, it will not be the surprise you would want.

Every part of your life will gradually improve, as you get closer to the end of the month as planets move away from their "hot zone" placements. I promise!

The full moon in Pisces (1 degree) will brighten your house of work and health on August 24, plus or minus four days. You will see successes on both fronts. This time, instead of Pluto being a stick-in-the-mud, he will be your best buddy and send excellent vibrations to support you. You may now finish up a big work-related project, and it looks like a VIP client or boss will be very pleased with your work. This assignment may lead to others that are more lucrative and sophisticated, so this full moon may be quite a special moment in your timeline.

Your health and fitness will improve at the full moon too, especially if you have been working out or doing other things to improve your health in the weeks leading to August 24. With Saturn now in Libra, you would be wise to do weight-bearing exercises, for Saturn in your sign will tend to drain calcium from your bones and teeth. Ask your doctor if you should take calcium supplements. Saturn will be with you until October 2012, so start now to keep yourself strong and healthy in the coming months.

One big side benefit of having Saturn in your sign is that it is VERY helpful for losing weight. In fact, of all the signs, you have the best outlook for slimming down, even if you have no plans to diet. Saturn condenses and contracts everything it touches - and that includes your body! You've not had this help from Saturn since 1980-1983. With just a small effort, combining exercise, better sleep, and nutritious eating, and you can look precisely as you hope to look - radiant and sexy by the year-end holidays. This year, no matter if you are a man or a woman Libra, you may be the center of attention when you walk onto the dance floor looking sleek and toned - a real knockout!

Summary

As of late last month, Saturn has returned to Libra and is adding responsibilities to your shoulders. From October 29, 2009, to April 7, 2010, you had a brief reprieve, for Saturn had backed into Virgo at that time, an easier place for you to host this taskmaster planet. Now that he's back, you may need to give yourself space to make adjustments. Time may become more precious to you than ever before as you take on more to do, but this is only Saturn's way to help you value time and to inspire you to become more productive. Keep in mind that the victories you make under this trend will be victories you keep forever.

Family obligations or concern over a parent's health may have been on your mind lately, and you may be pressed into family service now if you haven't already. Alternatively, you may have a real estate issue to solve or a home-related project to finish. This seems to be a long-term situation that will be improved by breaking the project into small, attainable goals rather than by approaching it as one massive event to be done all at once.

There are several fortunate areas of your chart in August. The first has to do with your loyal friends who will be willing to do almost any favor you would ask. They have your back one hundred percent. After the new moon August 9, don't be shy about reaching out if you need advice, help, or a special introduction. In the two weeks that follow the new moon August 9, you may get a number of exciting invitations. Getting a chance to kick back with pals who clearly love you will alleviate some of the day-to-day stress you may have been feeling lately as you ease into life with Saturn in Libra.

The second area of gain will be through your significant other, as indicated by Jupiter, the good fortune planet, and Uranus, planet of surprise, both now in your partnership / marriage sector. Your steady romantic partner, spouse or business partner / agent / publicist may thrill you with news this month, so be all ears when this person tells you that they have something to share. Clearly, your biggest gains will come through an intermediary rather than through your own efforts.

Still, just because this person is good for you doesn't mean you will always get along well together - you won't, especially in the days surrounding August 6 and 7, and during the week of August 9 to 13. Be philosophical. The fact that you are conflicting sometimes means you both are participating fully in the relationship.

The third big boost to your chart of the moment involves action Mars, now in Libra for the first time since August 2008. Mars will now help you set up a new two-year cycle. The actions you take will have the power to transform your life in a positive way, and others will be far more likely to support your ideas than they have at any other time. You will have until mid-September to present your idea to others, both professionally and on a personal scale. If you act within this timeframe, your chances of success will increase ten-fold. With booster rocket Mars behind you, you will display courage, drive, and a sense of purpose that could light a nation to your cause.

Still, as much as you will want to break out of the gate and stun everyone with your energy and drive, the world won't be ready to receive your ideas. The cardinal cross pattern in the sky will create distraction, tension, and a fearful atmosphere, and you will have to work slowly and carefully. Use Mars' energy to plan but not to initiate quite yet. If possible, do so in mid-September when you will have the right environment to set things in motion.

I say this because you will have to factor in that Mercury will be retrograde from August 20 to September 12. Whenever this planet is out of phase, you can plan, but not etch anything in stone. Mercury retrograde creates unforeseen circumstances that later create obstacles and problems that would further complicate your life. You don't need that! This time Mercury will retrograde in a financial house, so payments that are due to you will be late. In early August, you may want to send a second reminder statement to all those people who owe you money.

In matters of health, if you have a concern, the full moon August 24 may bring good news. Pluto, the planet of regeneration, will be in a very friendly position, so if conditions come to a climax, you can be optimistic that you can overcome almost any situation by showing a fighting spirit and following your doctor's orders. Take a practical, sensible approach, for Pluto is moving through the earthy sign of Capricorn.

A work project that you complete near August 24 could bring you quite a bit of attention too, and lead you to bigger and better things.

Romantically, if you are attached, you will have your hands full during the first half, when your significant other may be quite disagreeable. Wait out the storms - things will improve by month's end.

If you are single, Mars in Libra will make you very attractive. You have Venus in your sign too, so it will be easy to turn heads. If you ever felt invisible before (and at times, we all do), you won't now! It's an ideal time to take a second look at your appearance - choose August 20 to do so.

Saturn will be close to both Venus and Mars, and will make you practical, so you won't date someone just for arm candy - you'll want to see long-term potential in that person. Good! You now mean business and Cupid's angels will respond by noting your purposeful attitude and work to give you what exactly what you want!

Dates to Note:

Mercury will retrograde in a financial house from August 20 to September 12. Checks due to you may be temporarily held up.

Saturn is back in Libra (as of July 21) and set to stay until October 2012. You will need to manage your energy carefully as you will be adding more to your agenda from now on. Time will become a bit more scarce, but also more precious.

Mars in Libra makes this a perfect time to think about goals and set up blueprints for the future. Do your research this month with the aim to put your plans into motion after September 14. August is about thinking, while mid-to-late September about actions.

The new moon, August 9, will do wonders for your social life. In a month filled with mixed messages, you'd do best to let go and relax while you can.

Mars in Libra will also make you ultra-attractive to others - it's an advantage you'll have for the coming 6 weeks!

You will have a highly romantic day coming up when Venus conjoins Mars in Libra, a wow of a configuration that is as rare as it is special, on August 20.

You will need to be back at the office on the full moon, August 24, when a major project will need to be wrapped up.

The full moon August 24 could help you turn a corner toward better health. Pluto will help you - be optimistic.

Fashion's Night Out September 10, 2010 New York City

Come see me, Susan Miller, and get a personal one-on-one horoscope reading with me! This charity is dear to my heart. As you may already know, in my past, I have been through two harrowing surgeries to correct a birth defect that involved excessive bleeding on my left leg. In the first surgery, at age 14, I was in the hospital for eleven months, and the second time, in 1992, I was in for eight months. During all my surgeries, so far in life I have I received a total of 38 blood transfusions.

I am fortunate - all the blood I received was wholesome and untainted, and because of that, I am alive today. In the early days of the disease, when the medical community was still learning how to properly test donated blood for AIDS, some hospital transfusion recipients got AIDS. Among the most notable was Elizabeth Glaser, who contracted the disease from receiving a blood transfusion after giving birth. Before she died at a young age, she became an effective AIDS activist and raised quite a bit of awareness for the disease. Most of us know people who are no longer among us who have fallen victim to this disease. More work needs to be done. Being a very lucky girl, I will always try to find ways to say thank you to the world, and to God, for protecting me. As you see, AIDS is a charity close to my heart. Please come and help me raise quite a bit of money for this charity!

So mark the date - the evening of September 10 in New York City. Henri Bendel has planned quite an array of sparkling events for that evening - all very unique and fun - and I am only one small part of their activities. If you are not familiar with Henri Bendel you are in for a treat! The store itself is housed in a beautiful jewel of a landmark building that's small and very elegant. It is my very favorite store to buy on-trend fashion handbags, scarves, sunglasses, jewelry, and makeup. Bendel's specializes in accessories and beauty only, so come with your list to get ready for fall!

Congratulations to author Derek Blasberg for his cool new book "Classy."

I have been so busy lately that it's been hard to sit down to read a book. Still, when I heard that Derek Blasberg had recently written "Classy" and it was hitting high notes at the New York Times, I knew instantly I wanted to read it. Derek grew up in St. Louis, but graduated from New York University with a major in Dramatic Literature and Journalism.

Anyone familiar with the downtown, uber-hip scene in New York City will soon hear about Derek. He is one of the cool, young arbiters of taste here in the same way that creative director Joe Zee at Elle magazine has become. (If you watch The City on TV, you know Joe.) Derek edits a regular column at Style.com, so you get the picture.

This is an ultra-modern book of etiquette aimed at a modern young woman born into an age where things are changing at the speed of light. With so much new technology to enjoy and discover, and social networking changing the way we think and communicate, questions of what's right, what's wrong are inevitable - and yet surprisingly tough to sort out. When is a skirt too short? When, or if, is it OK to answer a cell phone at a meeting? What about breaking up a romance - what are the new rules? On Facebook, how can you avoid being a victim of TMI (too much information) versus just being friendly? Derek Blasberg tackles it all.

His chapters are written in such a compelling way, curiosity leads you to wander in, and once there, you'll find you stay there. I first opened the book to this chapter, "Some Notes on New Places: Whether you're crossing the street or crossing the ocean, it's good to keep a few things in mind when you've changed your location." How can you not read on?

Yet Derek never tricks you - his chapter heads deliver the goods he promises, which is more than I can say for some tabloid magazine blurbs these days. Derek's advice is substantial, very honest, and always thought-provoking. Even when his advice is delivered in humorous form, which is frequently, he manages to make solid sense, and may even coax you to see things from a completely new perspective.

I particularly loved his chapter that lists "Fashionable Films to Know." There's another chapter, right after it, called "Fictional Characters to Know (in Books You Should Read)." I am a sucker for these kinds of lists, because I love to see what other people enjoy - I might get an idea. In this case, I got lots of new ideas of classic books to read and classic films to see that somehow (no idea how) I missed.

"Classy" is billed as the perfect handbook for the very young woman of Gossip Girl age, but honestly, I feel this book is for anyone, including me. Here is the link to Amazon to get it. Simply Text "AZP" to 46966

Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile customers: When you text AZP to 46966, you will receive a text message back with step-by-step instructions on how to download the application.

Example: Verizon customers are told to go to "Get it Now," then "Tools on the Go," then "Mind, Body & Soul," and then select Astrology Zone Premier. So, Verizon customers will have to actually exit the Text Message and go back into the menu on their phone. This is something that you, as a Verizon customer, have to do to get any application, so it's not a new process, and it's worth the effort!

AT&T and Sprint customers: When you text AZP to 46966, you will receive a text message back that includes a link to the application. It is a more direct process than the one outlined above.

Not all phones are equipped to take the new technology, so check first with your provider and explain which phone you own. If you purchased a cell phone in the past year, chances are your phone is ready.

Every carrier sets their own rates, so check with your provider to find out what Astrology Zone Premier would cost for you. I can say it's very affordable, and that I give you much more information than competitive services.
