Taurus Horoscope for August 2010

This will be one of those months that bring all sorts of startling developments, just when your guard was down because you assumed it would be a sleepy, routine little month. Your work life seems particularly active, but co-workers, perhaps because they are overworked, will be unusually combative and quick to snap. Mars, Saturn, and your ruler, Venus, will be crowded into your sixth house of work projects, and when your ruler's involved, it means you'll be paying quite a bit of attention to all that is going on. In other words, your reputation seems to be on the line, and you will be hovering over projects to make sure things are done right.

Alas, in the first week, Uranus will be in opposition to Mars (a holdover from July 30 when these two were precisely at each other's throats), so there will be tension in the office as you begin the first week of August. Venus, your ruler, will get an opposition from Uranus, August 7, making love, money, work, and things important you unstable and unpredictable. August 7 won't be your favorite day of the month, as it will be packed with difficulties.

At the very same time, there will be an unusual number of planets in cardinal signs, namely Uranus and Jupiter in Aries; Mars, Venus, and Saturn in Libra; Pluto in Capricorn, and on August 6 and 7, the moon will be in Cancer. That transiting moon will complete the box, creating a perfect grand cardinal cross within tiny degrees of each other. This is quite unusual, but the good news is that because these planets will not be in fixed signs like yours, you will likely be a bystander to events, rather than the subject of them. You will feel the tensions, of course - everyone, of every sign, will be included in this - but you won't be the main event. When you switch on the news, you may hear that the stock market is rocking to these tensions, so take a watch and await stance and don't take undue risks.

What makes August 6 and 7 even more critical is that Mars will act as a trigger point to the June 26 eclipse because it will reach 5 degrees Libra, in hard angle to the eclipse, which was 5 degrees Capricorn. If you didn't notice too much happening near the June 26 eclipse, or one month to the day later, near July 26, you may hear something within five days of August 6-7. This is layer upon layer of aspects building up energy that we need to pay attention to this month.

This all sounds ominous, but it really is all about an urgency these planets are creating to correct any errors in two areas of your life: in regard to your work projects, co-workers, underlings, and methods you use to get your work done, and also in matters that pertain to your physical and mental health.

At work, there will be much to do and a great deal of pressure to get it all done on time. If you are a manager and have been unhappy with one employee's performance, you may be forced to let that person go and hire someone more qualified. There will be no more time to see if this person begins to work out. If you are not a manager, you may be frustrated with the atmosphere of non-cooperation of people in your department. It seems to be everyone for himself this month, and that's unfortunate, but this may happen because everyone will have too much to do. You may need to buy better or upgraded software or equipment, or change the way you work with clients.

Because the June 26 eclipse will be activated on August 6, you might be asked to sign papers. Be very careful to look at every clause, and ask your lawyer to think about any instance that would not be covered by the fine print.

You will be busy this month, so a vacation does not seem at all likely, but you may need to travel for business because the June 26 eclipse will be activated. Be ready for that - it could be that you need to go quite a distance. If you can get things done with Skype, you might do it that way, for taking time to be out of the office will be tough.

The sixth house, where all this energy will be based, also refers to health and fitness. With cardinal planets seeming to say, "Pay attention to us and don't put anything off!" you may see that you really ought to change your ways. You may decide you must start to get to the gym on a regular basis and begin to eat more nutritiously. This revelation may come because you love the gym and miss the release of tension you used to get by going there. Or, it may come because your doctor or friend says something to you that makes you reevaluate your habits. It really doesn't matter why you change your ways, only that you do. Working out with a friend, spouse, or other love interest will be motivating and fun, for Mars, the planet of action, will be in Libra, the twosome sign.

Alternatively, if you are already in very good shape, you may decide to have a certain surgery done or decide to see your dentist about a certain procedure or physical therapy you need. There are many possible examples involving your physical health, and maybe you can guess what your unique situation will be

On the psychological side, if there is a habit that you know you need to give up, seek help this month. It doesn't matter if it is for an addiction big or small, or if you have a fear that has been holding you back. The powerful planets in cardinal signs will give you the energy and the determination to bore through a brick wall if you have to do so. You can find the right help now. Don't assume that just because you weren't able to succeed in the past that your past disappointment will predict your future - it won't. This is "Jack the Giant Killer" energy that you can use to your advantage. Keep in mind too that the physical and mental elements are not mutually exclusive - you can work on both and succeed.

Now let's turn to your home, other property, or one of your parents, which will also get quite a bit of attention this month. You've had a long and very strong emphasis on your home, living quarters, and family matters last year, and now, at the new moon in Leo on August 9, you may decide to begin thinking about your situation again and perhaps apply a new solution.

This new moon would ordinarily help you, but because it will oppose Neptune, facts you need to make a proper final decision may be hard to obtain and decipher. If you plan to buy a house, you will need to do a thorough examination with an appraiser to find out what needs to be done. The buyer may try to hide certain problems from you. If you are selling a house, do thorough background checks on the buyer to be sure they can afford to buy your home and that they are ready to get a mortgage from a bank. Things are in flux now, and obstacles may be around the next corner.

Because this new moon in Leo on August 9 falls close to the cardinal cross, there will be many confusing crosscurrents in the air. It would be best to go slowly until you see the whole picture and can get the answers to any questions you may have.

Neptune's presence could create expensive problems whether you rent or own through water damage, mold, tainted water, floods, and so forth - make sure you have proper home insurance to cover any eventuality. Of these the most likely problem is flood or a leaky roof. I don't mean to frighten you too much, but just to urge you to have a water damage clause in your renters or homeowners insurance.

Having said those things, Neptune could be a big help if you are decorating your space, for Neptune is the planet of inspiration and creativity. This would be the time to measure your room, make a visual board, and list your plans, but don't enact them just yet. It's a good time to do research but not to send those plans into action right now. It is certainly not the time to buy expensive furniture or appliances.

I say that because Mercury is ready to go into retrograde on August 20, but you will feel things go haywire as soon as August 6. It is never wise to work too close to a Mercury retrograde, so keep some distance between your actions and the onset date of August 20. It would be best to table actions, announcements, contractual signings, and major purchases until AFTER Mercury goes direct September 12. Leave a space of a day or two after September 12 and you will be good to go.

Romantically, August takes on a much softer, gentler feel after the Sun moves into highly compatible Virgo for a month, beginning on August 23. You have been operating under Saturn in Virgo, an aspect that started September 2007 and that created obstacles in finding love or to enjoy the love you found (due to enforced separations). Now, as of July 21, all those barriers have fallen, for Saturn has moved on to Libra. Your road to love is now wide open.

Also, your personal social and romantic life will be boosted by the return of Uranus to Pisces on August 14, to stay until March 11, 2011. Jupiter will join Uranus on September 9, so things are about to get better and better for you! Rarely has your outlook been this wonderful for finding new love and for enjoying the love you share with someone special.

If you are attached and have tied to conceive a baby with no luck, or have delayed planning a baby due to economic conditions, the barriers in that area of life are falling away now, too. Your personal life is about to bloom, dear Taurus, in a big way.

Venus is your guardian planet, and it will link to Mars, a very sparkling, sexy influence, on August 20. Venus loves to be with Mars, because like most modern couples, they are busy and have very little time to be together. It has to count - you will make sure it does! These two will meet in your sports and fitness house, so you may meet at a sports oriented setting, or if you are attached, you may decide to go camping together. The house they meet in also rules work spaces, so don't rule out finding a spark of love in the company cafeteria or other area. You never know.

There's more coming! You will see just how lovely life can be on August 24 plus or minus four days, thanks to the full moon in poetic Pisces, due to brighten your eleventh houses of events, fun, people, and friendship. This full moon will send a lovely vibe to Pluto, so you may hear from a friend based afar, or you may need to travel to go to a friend's wedding or other event, possibly overseas or on the opposite coast.

Alternatively, it's also possible you will be going off to college, as the house where Pluto is situated is associated with universities. Perhaps you will attend an orientation mixer or other party, and if so, it certainly will be memorable fun.

Within days of August 24, you may also get some good news from the media, either as a guest being interviewed or as a writer or producer, or you may be asked to join the staff. This is happy news on any level! This full moon will be especially exciting if you were born early in your sign, within days of April 20.

In all ways, the month may enter like a lion, but it surely will end like a lamb. The good part is, although you may feel forced to make a few tough decisions, you will, and you'll be able to move on with your life. The social aspects truly glitter at months' end, sure to lift your spirits. Be sure you enjoy all your most social days, dear Taurus!

Summary

Don't expect to have a typical slow and gentle August. Your workaday sector will be brimming with activity, so perhaps you have a seasonal job that requires you to do much to get ready for the coming yearend holidays. Things won't always go according to plan, for the planets will be in a very disruptive mood. Plan extra time for each project. Co-workers and subordinates may be cranky complainers at best and downright uncooperative at worse.

With work taking such a huge priority, if you've been hoping for a vacation, you'd do best to plan to one in September when not only will the pressure be reduced, but your social life will be moving into full swing, too.

The new moon on August 9 will help you build a blueprint for changes at home. If you've been searching for real estate or decorating options, but not liking any of the ones you've found, this new moon may open the door to choices that you can get excited about in the two weeks that follow. Look at spaces; collect paint and fabric swatches; and browse showrooms for furniture, linens, and anything else you might have on your list to refresh your space. Even simple changes to your home, such as reducing clutter or painting a room or two, will create a great deal of comfort.

Be careful, though, as you are moving into a Mercury retrograde period, from August 20 to September 12. It would be best to make plans, but enact them a few days AFTER September 12 for best luck.

With options for a relaxing vacation slim during the first three weeks (with the exception of a possible business trip), you might want to make the most of August by getting active in sports. Physical activity will help you dispel any tension and give you a bounce to your step. With Mars assisting you, you'd see rapid progress in toning up now, so look into Mars' specialties - weight lifting or sprinting.

Libra is the sign of partnership and since Mars will be in Libra and your sixth house of physical fitness, ask a city-bound friend, sweetheart, or spouse to accompany you to the gym. In sports, tennis or other partner-oriented games would keep you motivated and you'll tone up impressively, even if you started at a good point. Aim to achieve for a personal best.

An outstanding and quite romantic social event will dot your calendar on the full moon August 24, covering the four days surrounding this date. Neptune will be close to that moon, suggesting what you experience may seem like a dream - filled with glamour! You may need to go to another city to attend, but if so, accept, for this is a "must do" on your agenda. You've been working unusually hard and could really benefit from a carefree and elegant night of celebration. This will be one of those rare nights when everything goes right and new friends or romance could ensue. Go, and look your best!

Dates to Note:

A home or property goal can get a push forward on the new moon, August 9. Be careful of any estimates or bids - with Neptune close to that moon there will be uncertainties or vague clauses to be discovered and settled. Do not rush.

Your office life will be incredibly busy all month and personnel in the office will feel strain. There won't be much time to take a vacation now. Wait until the second half of September or October to go.

Uranus will move back to Pisces on August 14 and will enliven your social life quite a bit from now through most of January 2011.

Your romantic life will get a big boost once the Sun moves into Virgo and your fifth house of true love, August 23.

You will shine in any endeavor: August 20, thanks to Venus' link to Mars.

Earlier, over the weekend of August 7-8, when Venus, your ruler, receives a challenge from Uranus, planet of surprise, you are likely to get jarring news or find a relationship goes haywire.

Things will improve! An enchanting party may be on your agenda on August 24 or within four days of his date. It's a "must" so send your RSVP!

Your most romantic, fun dates of the month include: August 11, 20-21 (gold star, when Mars embraces Venus), August 24-26, and 29-30.

Your worst day: August 7 when Venus opposes Uranus. Keep your head down and out of the line of fire.

Keep in mind Mercury will retrograde August 20-September 12. Plan actions for the first week, or else delay all decisions and major actions until after mid-September. You need to stay as far away from this Mercury retrograde period as possible. You have real estate issues going on, but it would be best to keep your options open until the middle of next month.

This charity is dear to my heart. As you may already know, in my past, I have been through two harrowing surgeries to correct a birth defect that involved excessive bleeding on my left leg. In the first surgery, at age 14, I was in the hospital for eleven months, and the second time, in 1992, I was in for eight months. During all my surgeries, so far in life I have I received a total of 38 blood transfusions.

I am fortunate - all the blood I received was wholesome and untainted, and because of that, I am alive today. In the early days of the disease, when the medical community was still learning how to properly test donated blood for AIDS, some hospital transfusion recipients got AIDS. Among the most notable was Elizabeth Glaser, who contracted the disease from receiving a blood transfusion after giving birth. Before she died at a young age, she became an effective AIDS activist and raised quite a bit of awareness for the disease. Most of us know people who are no longer among us who have fallen victim to this disease. More work needs to be done. Being a very lucky girl, I will always try to find ways to say thank you to the world, and to God, for protecting me. As you see, AIDS is a charity close to my heart. Please come and help me raise quite a bit of money for this charity!

So mark the date - the evening of September 10 in New York City. Henri Bendel has planned quite an array of sparkling events for that evening - all very unique and fun - and I am only one small part of their activities. If you are not familiar with Henri Bendel you are in for a treat! The store itself is housed in a beautiful jewel of a landmark building that's small and very elegant. It is my very favorite store to buy on-trend fashion handbags, scarves, sunglasses, jewelry, and makeup. Bendel's specializes in accessories and beauty only, so come with your list to get ready for fall!

Congratulations to author Derek Blasberg for his cool new book "Classy."

I have been so busy lately that it's been hard to sit down to read a book. Still, when I heard that Derek Blasberg had recently written "Classy" and it was hitting high notes at the New York Times, I knew instantly I wanted to read it. Derek grew up in St. Louis, but graduated from New York University with a major in Dramatic Literature and Journalism.

Anyone familiar with the downtown, uber-hip scene in New York City will soon hear about Derek. He is one of the cool, young arbiters of taste here in the same way that creative director Joe Zee at Elle magazine has become. (If you watch The City on TV, you know Joe.) Derek edits a regular column at Style.com, so you get the picture.

This is an ultra-modern book of etiquette aimed at a modern young woman born into an age where things are changing at the speed of light. With so much new technology to enjoy and discover, and social networking changing the way we think and communicate, questions of what's right, what's wrong are inevitable - and yet surprisingly tough to sort out. When is a skirt too short? When, or if, is it OK to answer a cell phone at a meeting? What about breaking up a romance - what are the new rules? On Facebook, how can you avoid being a victim of TMI (too much information) versus just being friendly? Derek Blasberg tackles it all.

His chapters are written in such a compelling way, curiosity leads you to wander in, and once there, you'll find you stay there. I first opened the book to this chapter, "Some Notes on New Places: Whether you're crossing the street or crossing the ocean, it's good to keep a few things in mind when you've changed your location." How can you not read on?

Yet Derek never tricks you - his chapter heads deliver the goods he promises, which is more than I can say for some tabloid magazine blurbs these days. Derek's advice is substantial, very honest, and always thought-provoking. Even when his advice is delivered in humorous form, which is frequently, he manages to make solid sense, and may even coax you to see things from a completely new perspective.

I particularly loved his chapter that lists "Fashionable Films to Know." There's another chapter, right after it, called "Fictional Characters to Know (in Books You Should Read)." I am a sucker for these kinds of lists, because I love to see what other people enjoy - I might get an idea. In this case, I got lots of new ideas of classic books to read and classic films to see that somehow (no idea how) I missed.

"Classy" is billed as the perfect handbook for the very young woman of Gossip Girl age, but honestly, I feel this book is for anyone, including me. Here is the link to Amazon to get it. Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile customers: When you text AZP to 46966, you will receive a text message back with step-by-step instructions on how to download the application.

Example: Verizon customers are told to go to "Get it Now," then "Tools on the Go," then "Mind, Body & Soul," and then select Astrology Zone Premier. So, Verizon customers will have to actually exit the Text Message and go back into the menu on their phone. This is something that you, as a Verizon customer, have to do to get any application, so it's not a new process, and it's worth the effort!

AT&T and Sprint customers: When you text AZP to 46966, you will receive a text message back that includes a link to the application. It is a more direct process than the one outlined above.

Not all phones are equipped to take the new technology, so check first with your provider and explain which phone you own. If you purchased a cell phone in the past year, chances are your phone is ready.

Every carrier sets their own rates, so check with your provider to find out what Astrology Zone Premier would cost for you.
